The DGS November Luncheon will be at the Wynkoop on November 13th, at 11:30pm. Join us in welcoming Zahary Vera from AspenTech who will be giving a Midland Basin case study on seismic inversion. See you then!

Zahary Vera is a Technical Advisor – Geophysics at AspenTech SSE in North America, where she helps develop interpretation and reservoir characterization workflows that leverage the full suite of geophysical and geological innovations. She has over 20 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. Zahary holds a B.S. in Geophysical Engineering from Simon Bolivar University, Venezuela, and completed postgraduate studies in Geology at Central University, Venezuela.

Abstract:

Seismic inversion of rock properties is crucial for geoscientists assessing the integrity of reservoirs and surrounding formations. Geophysicists face challenges such as limited seismic data resolution, structural complexity and the need for high-productivity technology to meet project deadlines.

In this presentation, we will share how advanced seismic inversion techniques can improve reservoir assessments and production safety, with a deep dive into a Permian Basin case study that demonstrates:

  • A real-world application of a neural network seismic inversion, combined with Fast Stochastic Inversion and constrained by Relative Geologic Time, that can enhance the quality and resolution of seismic data
  • Overcoming typical challenges faced in reservoir development
